Sub-Saharan Afica’s mobile market still grows at a fast pace
16 August 2022Performance of Sub-Saharan Afica’s mobile market is more than positive during the late few years. The region has grown at a faster pace than any other in the world, and will remain in the first place in the years to come.
People in the region have massively adopted mobile telephony and they are rapidly engaging with new mobile services that are empowering lives and transforming businesses. After many years when 2G was the leading mobile technology, 3G will overtake it during 2019 with just over 45{2b3fe3109f87c6f1c896babd3a2485fbf135a42141067a7771ef7eb1664b998e} of total connections by the end of the year.
At the following infographic we have highlighted some key elements of this mobile evolution during the past four years. Findings are indicative of the progress that has been done in the past and it’s clear that in the years to come the shift to mobile broadband is going to be explosive. Sub-Saharan Africa is ready for that turn, due to two main driving forces: a growing youth population who steadily adopts new broadband services and more affordable smartphones due to better prices and “handset loan” services, such as those offered from Channel VAS. Those two forces complement each other and are the most important reasons why predictions for even greater growth in the coming years are so optimistic.
